Sonoma County Deputy Probation Officer III Larry Younger Receives Statewide Recognition from the Chief Probation Officers of California for CPOC Award of Excellence
On December 8, 2022, Sonoma Deputy Probation Officer III Larry Younger was recognized at the statewide 2022 Annual Chief Probation Officers of California Awards Ceremony in Sacramento as the CPOC Award of Excellence recipient. This award is given to an employee of any rank selected by the CPOC affiliate for meritorious service, significant contributions, career achievement among other reasons warranting recognition.
The Sonoma County Probation Department’s Juvenile Hall pilot Welding Program for youth in the Secure Youth Treatment Facility (SYTF) is off to a great start! The inaugural program was offered to two youth in Juvenile Hall who had to apply for acceptance into the program.
Probation staff recently participated in the Trunk-or-Treat Event hosted by the Santa Rosa Police Department. Dressed as “Mario Kart” characters, our staff interacted with many wonderful community partners and were adored by the community members while they enjoyed a safe place to Trick-or-Treat from the trunks of vehicles. More than a thousand youth and families turned out for this year’s event!
The Sonoma County Probation Department has received a $220,000 grant for an intensive probation supervision program for high-risk DUI offenders with multiple DUI convictions.
The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors on Oct. 25 is expected to confirm the appointment of Vanessa Fuchs as the county’s new Chief Probation Officer. Fuchs, who has been with the Sonoma County Probation Department since 1998, most recently serving as Deputy Chief Probation Officer, was selected following a nationwide search.
The Sonoma County Probation Department concluded a comprehensive review of its juvenile justice system, which identified strategies for how the department and other youth-serving agencies can collaborate to improve youth outcomes.
