The Registrar of Voters Office is a division of the County Clerk-Recorder-Assessor’s Department, under the direction of an elected County Clerk. The Registrar of Voters Office performs a range of election-related duties, in addition to other public services that increase citizen participation and education.

Do You Want to Vote for President in the Primary?
If you're registered with one of the six qualified political parties in California (American Independent Party, Democratic Party, Green Party, Libertarian Party, Peace and Freedom Party, Republican Party), your ballot will automatically include that party's presidential candidates.
If you're not registered with one of the six qualified political parties in California, you might be able to "cross over" and vote in a qualified political party's presidential primary if that party allows it.

Nominations Ongoing
Nominations for all offices are set to close Dec. 8. If the incumbent for any office (excluding central committees) fails to file by Dec. 8, nominations for that office are extended to Dec. 13.

- none of the offices up for election had sufficient candidates file by the deadline to trigger an election
- no jurisdiction filed to place a measure on the ballot by the deadline

Nomination period opens November 13 for March Primary Election
Nominations open November 13 for 21 federal, state and county offices that will be on the ballot in Sonoma County for the March 5, 2024 Presidential Primary Election. Candidates interested in running for these positions must take out nomination papers and file them at the Sonoma County Registrar of Voters by 5 p.m. on December 8.
