SANTA ROSA, CA | August 30, 2023

En español »

The Sonoma County Housing Authority will be accepting applications from Oct. 1 until Oct. 31 for its Housing Choice Voucher waitlist lottery.

After the close of the application period, 750 applicants will be randomly selected for placement on the waitlist. Selected applicants will then be confirmed for eligibility. Those who are not selected this time will be notified and are welcome to reapply when another waitlist reopens.

The Housing Choice Voucher program - formerly known as the Section 8 program - provides financial assistance to very low-income individuals and families to enable them to afford housing in the private rental housing market. You can verify if you are income-eligible by visiting the Sonoma County Housing Authority Page.

Income-eligible applicants must submit an application during this application period only. No application will be accepted prior to the Oct. 1 opening.  Applications are due no later than Tuesday, Oct. 31, by 5 p.m. if submitted in person at the Housing Authority’s offices, or by 11:59 p.m. if submitted online.

Beginning Oct. 1, applications may be completed online at www.waitlistcheck.com/CA085 or in person at the Housing Authority's offices, located at 1440 Guerneville Road in Santa Rosa. Offices are open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

If you require a disability-related accommodation to access any programs, services or activities provided by the Sonoma County Community Development Commission or the Sonoma County Housing Authority, please contact (707) 565-7500/TDD (707) 565-7555. Translation services will be made available upon request.

The Housing Authority reminds the public that fees-for-service or credit card numbers are never collected when applying to Housing Choice Voucher or Project-Based Voucher Waitlists. Scammers often create fraudulent websites that look authentic and make such requests for payment. Please be wary. Their names may say “Section 8” and they may show an Equal Housing Opportunity logo. Such sites will take the applicant’s money and sell their personal information.

If you find a website that seems fraudulent, please file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The only legitimate website to apply to the Sonoma County Housing Authority Housing Choice Voucher Waitlist Lottery is www.waitlistcheck.com/CA085
