Public Hearing Notice – Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH) - February 8 through March 11, 2024
Published: February 08, 2024
A draft of the Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH) assessment, formerly known as the Assessment of Fair Housing, for the participating jurisdiction of Sonoma County is now available for public review. The draft AFFH is a requirement from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) of all participating jurisdictions of federal grant programs. The public comment period is: February 8 through March 11, 2024. Information on how to submit public comment and the public hearing scheduled for this assessment is found in the public notice.
Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968, known as the Fair Housing Act, requires HUD and recipients of federal funds from HUD to affirmatively further the policies and the act. This means that Sonoma County must take meaningful actions to combat discrimination, overcome patterns of segregation, and foster inclusivity in the community and thereby remove barriers that restrict access to opportunity based on protected characteristics: race, color, national origin, religion, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation, familial status, and disability. The AFFH assessment must determine who lacks access to opportunity and address inequities identified among protected class groups, promote integration, reduce segregation, and transform racially or ethically concentrated areas of poverty into areas of opportunity.
