The newest District 1 Commissioner, Haunani Pakaki, was born in Maui and raised in Kenwood surrounded by a loving family and warm community.  Always a voracious student and hard worker, she pursued her education with unwavering determination.  First attending the Santa Rosa Junior College and ultimately graduating from Sonoma State University with her Bachelor of Arts in Economics, she went on to obtain her Juris Doctor from the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco (formerly the University of California-Hastings College of the Law).  She has spent the last 15 years in public service, first at the State of California and now the County of Sonoma developing policies and programs to help vulnerable populations work toward improved outcomes.  She is also Co-chair of the Sonoma County Administrative Management Council, an informal employee organization that acts as a conduit representing administrative managers at the County of Sonoma, its agencies, and Special Districts.  She has a passion for understanding the complex systems, and helping others navigate them successfully.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Haunani finds solace and joy in the embrace of nature. Whether she's basking in the beauty of Lake Ilsanjo or hiking through Jack London State Park, she finds inspiration and renewal in the great outdoors.  Family and friends also hold a special place in Haunani's heart, and she cherishes moments spent laughing, singing, and cooking with loved ones.  These simple yet profound connections fuel her spirit and remind her of the importance of community, compassion, and togetherness.

Haunani hopes that she can honor the girls and women of Sonoma County in her new role as Commissioner, an appointment that she sees as a culmination of her personal and professional goals.
