About the Board

Sonoma County Board of Supervisors sits as the governing board of Sonoma County and of various special jurisdictions such as the Sonoma County Water Agency, the Northern Sonoma County Air Pollution Control District, the Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District, County Sanitation Districts, and the Community Development Commission. The Board is composed of five supervisors elected from supervisorial districts for four year terms.

Mission Statement

The Board of Supervisors office is committed to providing the highest quality customer service to the public and private sector which develops mutual respect and pride in ourselves and Sonoma County by:

• Providing the leadership necessary to ensure citizen participation in the governance of Sonoma County as a whole.
• Providing courteous and prompt assistance to the public, demonstrating sensitivity, and treating customers with objectivity and respect.

Provide Public Services

A major task of the Board of Supervisors is to manage the public money which comes to the county from property tax, sales tax, fees, and federal and state income grants. The county budget has funds for services such as:

• Local road construction and maintenance
• Law enforcement
• Land use planning and enforcement
• Open Space Preservation
• Local bus service
• Public Health programs
• Human Service programs
• Regional Parks

In addition, the Board of Supervisors manages the county landfill, the public water transmission system which delivers water to cities and several sewage treatment facilities.

Resolve Conflicts

The Board of Supervisors is committed to providing the highest quality service to the public in a timely manner. To insure that the public is heard on issues of concern, the Board of Supervisors provides a forum for problem solving as it relates to government agencies and processes. To meet that goal, the Board also provides information and appropriate referrals to individuals who can resolve conflicts between individual citizens and the county departments.
