Santa Rosa, CA – July 10, 2017 – The County of Sonoma is now accepting nominations for the prestigious Jefferson Awards. Nominations are due on Monday, August 7, 2017.
The Jefferson Awards Program is a national recognition system designed to highlight public service in America. The awards began as part of the American Institute for Public Service in 1972 and were established by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, US Senator Robert Taft, Jr., and Sam Beard, staff to Bobby Kennedy. Locally, the program was adopted by the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors and was designed to highlight the value of nonprofit organizations, boards, commissions, and advisory bodies, as well as individual efforts for “Excellence in Community Leadership and Civic Engagement.”
“The Board of Supervisors invites the community to nominate extraordinary individuals and programs that inspire through action,” said Board of Supervisors Chair Shirlee Zane.
