Get ready: more atmospheric rivers headed toward Sonoma County

The National Weather Service forecasts multiple rain systems will impact Sonoma County beginning this weekend. Light rain will begin on Saturday and Sunday, followed by more significant rain on Monday and Tuesday. Strong winds are expected to return on Monday and Tuesday, increasing the risk of downed trees and power outages.

Make sure to:

  • Clean gutters and downspouts
  • Check tires, wiper blades, fluids and lights
  • Find your umbrella and rain gear
  • Prepare for longer commute times
  • Stay current with the forecast

There is the potential for flooding of creeks, streams and roads. If you encounter flooding, do not attempt to drive through it. Turn around, don’t drown.

Help shape Sonoma County’s transportation future

The Sonoma County Transportation Authority wants your input! Your feedback will guide decisions that impact roads, bike paths and transportation projects for the next 30 years.

SCTA is updating its Comprehensive Transportation Plan, which will shape regional transportation priorities and spending on transportation projects. Public perceptions, needs and demographics have changed in the wake of the pandemic. Now’s your chance to let regional transportation planners know how you would improve Sonoma County’s transportation system.

The survey will take approximately 6 minutes to complete. You can take it here: https://scta-rcpa.typeform.com/to/FZ7lyv9M

IOLERO partners with SSU to research public’s perceptions about community-oriented policing

The Independent Office of Law Enforcement Review and Outreach has partnered with Sonoma State University to better understand the perspectives of Sonoma County residents and the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office regarding community-oriented policing practices.

SSU is conducting a survey to learn more about whether residents and the Sheriff’s Office agree on community-oriented policing. It is overseen by Professor Emily K. Asencio, chair of the university’s Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice Studies.

Prior research suggests community policing is an effective way to prevent crime and diffuse escalating tension between law enforcement and the community. SSU has been collecting data from the Sheriff’s office directly about its policies, practices and attitudes related to community policing and is now collecting data from the community about its perceptions of community policing practices.

The survey has approximately 20 questions and will take about 15 minutes to complete. You can access the survey at this link:
