Supervisor Susan Gorin Invites District 1 Constituents to Serve on Boards and Commissions

Santa Rosa,CA | November 21, 2015

First District Supervisor Susan Gorin invites applications for positions on local policy making bodies. A list of all boards, commissions, and committees to which the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors appoints members is available online at: Boards, Commissions, Committees & Task Forces.

“With over 75 Boards, Committees, and Commissions in Sonoma County, there is something for everyone,” said Board of Supervisors Chair Susan Gorin. “Please consider getting involved and becoming strong civic leaders on important community issues. We want to hear your voices.”

In the First District, Supervisor Susan Gorin is calling for applicants for the following commissions and boards:

Advisory Council to Area Agency on Aging

The Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council advises the Board of Supervisors on issues and concerns affecting seniors (60 years and over) and adults with disabilities in Sonoma County. Responsibilities include planning, funding, advocacy, program development and coordination of existing services.

Meeting Schedule: Third Wednesday of each month at 1:00p.m. (July and December, if needed)

Location: Area Agency on Aging Office, 3725 Westwind Boulevard, Santa Rosa

Alcohol and Drug Problems Advisory Board

Members of the Alcohold and Drug Problems Advisory Board participate in the planning process of collaborative short and long term goals and objectives for alcohol and other drug service delivery for all segments of the community; assist in the development of appropriate and effective evaluation strategies for programs; assist in the process to address current and future service needs; encourage and educate the public to understand the nature of alcohol and other drug problems; and encourage community support of alcohol and drug programs.

Meeting Schedule: Third Wednesday of each month from 5:00p.m.-7p.m.

Location: Orenda Center, meeting room #1, 1430 Neotomas Ave, Santa Rosa

Civic Service Commission

Oversees the County personnel system and hears appeals of discipline, lay-off, examination, classification and discrimination.

Meeting Schedule: First and Third Thursday at 3:00 p.m.

Location: Human Resources, Training Room, 575 Administration Drive, #117C, Santa Rosa

Commission on Human Rights

The purpose of the Commission is to promote better human relations among all people in Sonoma County through education, mediation, cooperation with County and community agencies, and by initiating action that fosters the recognition of and an appreciation for the cultural diversity of the community.

Meeting Schedule: Fourth Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m.

Location: Permit and Resource Management Department (PRMD) Hearing Room, 2550 Ventura Avenue, Santa Rosa, CA 95403

Flood Control Advisory Committee Laguna Mark West Watershed Zone 1A; Valley of the Moon Watershed Zone 3A

Members of these Committees are representative of agricultural, residential, municipal and commercial interests within this designated Zone and advise on flood control matters. There is one vacancy on the Flood Control Advisory Committee Laguna-Mark West Zone 1A, and two vacancies on the Flood Control Advisory Committee, Valley of the Moon, Zone 3A.
