Sonoma County health officials issue freeze warning

Temperatures expected in the upper-20s to lower-30 degrees overnight

Santa Rosa,CA | December 17, 2021

The County of Sonoma is issuing a freeze warning in response to the National Weather Service’s prediction for freezing overnight lows expected through Sunday morning. Saturday morning is expected to be the coldest morning during the three-night event. Officials recommend that residents limit time outdoors, as serious medical conditions including hypothermia and frostbite, can develop with prolonged cold weather exposure.

Sonoma County’s system of care partners with local service providers are offering winter shelter bed space or other sleeping alternatives where shelters are not available.  This is in addition to year-round shelters and helps protect community members from the harshest weather during the winter. There will be 53 winter beds available on a first-come, first-served basis, with many offering wraparound services as well.

Reach For Home in northern Sonoma County will open nine additional beds when the temperature falls below 38 degrees or two or more days of rain occurs. The shelter is open to adults and families. Check-in begins at 7 p.m., with limited dinners available at 5:30 p.m. Guests must check out at 7 a.m. Reach For Home is located at:

Redwood Gospel Mission will have 40 beds available and begin intake daily at 1 p.m. The beds will be made available at 5 p.m. and guests must check out at 7 a.m. Individuals must have an ID.The shelter is open to all adults and families. Redwood Gospel is located at:

Social Advocates for Youths will operate four beds for youths between the age of 18 and 24.  Guests can begin checking in at 7 p.m. and will check out at 8 a.m. Social Advocates for Youths is located at:

In addition to the winter shelters and year-round operating shelters, Catholic Charities will operate a drop-in Shelter. The drop-in will operate Mon-Wed and Friday, from 6 a.m. - 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.- 5:30 p.m. During operating hours individuals can utilize laundry, telephone and mail services, and have access to hot showers. Individuals can also get assistance with the coordinated entry intake process. The drop-in center is located at:
