Celebrate Democracy on National Voter Registration Day

Santa Rosa, CA  –  September 21, 2020  –  On September 22, civic-minded people and organizations all across the United States will take part in National Voter Registration Day.  Deva Marie Proto, County Clerk-Recorder-Assessor-Registrar of Voters, invites you to join the Sonoma County Registrar of Voters Office and the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors in this nonpartisan effort to highlight the importance of participating in democracy by encouraging all eligible Sonoma County residents to register to vote.

To be eligible to register to vote in California, one must be a U.S. citizen, 18 years old on or before Election Day, and not in prison or on parole for the conviction of a felony.

For those who meet the above requirements, it is easier than ever to register to vote in California.  Simply visit RegisterToVote.ca.gov and fill out the application.  Online registration began in California in 2012 and has been growing in popularity every year since.  Paper registration remains an excellent option as well.  Physical forms are available at many public and government offices including city halls, post offices, and the Sonoma County Registrar of Voters Office at 435 Fiscal Drive in Santa Rosa.  You can also request a paper registration form be mailed to you by calling (707) 565-6800.

The last day to register to vote and receive a regular ballot in the upcoming November 3 Consolidated General Election is October 19, 2020.  Voters who have recently moved or changed their names should re-register by this date.  However, residents who miss this deadline still have the option to “conditionally” register and vote up until 8 p.m. on Election Day; please contact the Registrar of Voters Office for further details about this process.
