Sub-Freezing Temperatures Expected Through Sunday, Dec. 18

The County of Sonoma has EXTENDED its freeze warning until Sunday, Dec. 18 in response to the National Weather Service’s prediction of sub-freezing overnight temperatures through the weekend.

Officials recommend that residents limit time outdoors, as serious medical conditions including hypothermia and frostbite can develop with prolonged cold weather exposure.

Individuals who are unhoused are encouraged to move to their nearest shelter if possible. Some winter shelters in Sonoma County have expanded capacity on a first-come, first-served basis.

Protect Yourself and Your Loved Ones this Season

This holiday season, another surge in COVID infections along with high levels of influenza (flu) and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), are straining healthcare systems and impacting families.

The good news is that there are easy actions everyone can take to stay healthy this season. Twelve Bay Area health officers recommend the following steps:

  • Get vaccinated against flu and COVID
  • Stay home if you are sick
  • Wear a mask in indoor public places
  • Get tested before an indoor gathering or if you feel sick
  • Get treatment if needed
