The Lower Russian River Municipal Advisory Council seeks public input on Lower Russian River Governance study

SANTA ROSA, CA | January 19, 2024

Supervisor Lynda Hopkins and The Lower Russian River Municipal Advisory Council are inviting the public to take part in the final workshop to ask questions and provide feedback on the draft Lower Russian River Governance Study. The workshop will be held at Guerneville School, 14630 Armstrong Woods Road, Guerneville, on Saturday, Jan. 27 from 10:30 a.m. to noon. In-person Spanish interpretation will be made available. Free child care will also be provided during the workshop.

“We appreciate the public’s participation as we seek to identify gaps in services in the lower Russian River region and identify potential solutions,” said Supervisor Hopkins, whose district includes the area covered by the governance study. “To date, there have been more than 400 combined participants at the town halls, charlas, and MAC meetings. We eagerly anticipate continued participation in the final meeting as we collectively work toward shaping the future of our community.”

The Governance Study will result in recommendations for improving local, "city-level" services throughout the Lower Russian River region. Services may include land use/building permits and zoning, vacation rental impacts, affordable housing, public safety, roads and public works, parks/services for youth, trash pick up, restrooms, streetscape, emergency services, cell/broadband service, economic development and wastewater.

Recommendations will be based on an analysis of funding and governance strategies matched with community input on service gaps and needs. To date, there have been:

  • Two large-scale community meetings including breakout sessions
  • Two Municipal Advisory Council meetings
  • One Russian River Area Resources and Advocates presentation
  • Two workshops with the monolingual Spanish-speaking community also known as Charla Comunitaria

Outreach also included more than 20 individual and small group stakeholder meetings. Individuals can provide feedback on the report and answer a few survey questions about service delivery by clicking the following web page. Please note that there is a maximum character limit for the online feedback form. If the space provided is insufficient for your comments, please send them via email to district5@sonoma-county.org.
