Sonoma County Board of Supervisors honors groups advancing transgender rights
SANTA ROSA, CA | March 25, 2025
The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors today adopted a gold resolution acknowledging the critical work of local organizations that support the transgender community. At Board direction, County staff also raised a transgender pride flag outside the Sonoma County Administration Building in honor of International Transgender Day of Visibility.
The Board's resolution recognized Positive Images, LGBTQ Connection and Amor Para Todos, Sonoma County organizations that work to advance the rights and well-being of transgender and nonbinary individuals in Sonoma County, providing essential services that address the unique challenges faced by the trans community.
"Transgender rights are human rights," said Supervisor Lynda Hopkins, chair of Sonoma County’s Board of Supervisors. "It's more important than ever to stand up for the trans community. Across the country and here in California, trans people are being attacked — whether it's through harmful legislation or attempts to erase their very existence. Today, with the passage of this gold resolution, we are saying loud and clear: We stand with the trans community and are not just celebrating them today. We're also committed to standing up for their dignity every day."
The resolution reiterates that the County of Sonoma is committed to advancing policies that ensure equity, dignity and inclusivity for all, and recognizes the urgent need for support to protect the rights of transgender residents. The Board committed to partnering with those groups that support the transgender community.
"Positive Images, LGBTQ Connection and Amor Para Todos have an unwavering dedication to the transgender and nonbinary community, providing critical services, peer support, mental health resources and advocacy for safer, more inclusive schools and workplaces," the resolution states. "Their ongoing efforts play a central role in fostering a more equitable and just society for all."
In raising the pink, blue and white transgender pride flag in front of the Board Chambers at 575 Administration Drive in Santa Rosa, the Board is recognizing International Transgender Day of Visibility, celebrated on March 31 each year.
