Payment Standards
A Payment Standard is the means by which the Housing Authority calculates the tenant's rent portion. These standards are effective October 1, 2023 and remain in effect.
The rent for the unit selected must be comparable to other rents in the area. The amount of rent the Housing Authority can approve for a unit depends on the condition of the unit, rents being charged in that area and the income of the tenant.
Sonoma County has sub-market areas. Rents being charged in certain sub-markets may be lower than other parts of the County.
The Section 8 Program is flexible in the amount a tenant can pay, but cannot allow a tenant to pay more than 40% of their monthly adjusted income for their portion of the rent.
Shared Housing Payment Standards will be prorated by size of unit and Voucher size.
