About the Housing Choice Voucher Program

The Housing Choice Voucher Program is a rent subsidy program that assists eligible low-income persons and their families in obtaining affordable, decent, and safe housing by paying a portion of their rent. Eligible applicants locate a unit in the private rental market. Rent must be within the current allowed Payment Standards.

The Sonoma County Housing Authority’s Housing Choice Voucher Waitlist Lottery is currently closed.

Fraud Alert

There is no fee for submitting a waitlist application or receiving a voucher. No credit card number is ever collected when applying to the Housing Authority waitlists.

Preferences

Families on the Sonoma County Housing Authority’s waiting list will be served based on their numerical standing and preferences that apply. Applications deemed ineligible once selected will be removed from the list.

Preference is granted to applicants with household members in of the following groups: Any One

Applicants without preferences can expect to be served within 24 months of approval for a voucher.

    • Persons with disabilities
    • Seniors (62+ years of age)

You will only be required to provide documentation for any preferences that apply to you at the time your name is reached on the waiting list. Applicants with one of these preferences will be served first.
