County of Sonoma ranked fifth in nation in Digital Counties Survey

The Sonoma County Information Systems Department was ranked fifth among counties of its size by the Center for Digital Government, a national research and advisory institute focused on technology policy in local government.

In the organization’s annual Digital Counties Survey, which examines the overall technology programs and plans of counties nationwide, Sonoma County ranked in the top five in the 250,000 to 499,999 population category.

“This recognition is a credit to the Information Systems Department staff that works hard every day to improve the digital government experience for the residents of Sonoma County,” said Dan Fruchey, director of the Sonoma County Information Systems Department. “This award is a reflection of the pride we have for our community.”

In the past year, the Information Systems Department has been focused on advancing initiatives, including modernizing outdated systems and implementing new technologies to enhance efficiencies and improve access to information and services. Some examples include modernizing the Integrated Justice System, implementing digital forms with integrated workflows, implementing a hybrid cloud environment, and providing guidance and guardrails on the growing use of artificial intelligence.

The award will be presented during the National Association of Counties 2024 annual conference in Tampa, Florida.
