County of Sonoma Board of Supervisors to hold annual budget workshops April 25 to April 27

SANTA ROSA, CA | April 20, 2023

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors will hold its annual budget workshops on April 25, 26 and 27 to provide county residents and taxpayers an opportunity to learn about the 2023-2024 fiscal year preliminary spending plan and provide input to the Board of Supervisors before it adopts a final budget in June. The County of Sonoma fiscal year runs July 1 through June 30. The workshops are informational, and the board will not make any budget determinations for fiscal year 2023-24 at them.

“The budget workshops are designed to provide the board and public the information required to make final budget determinations in June,” said Chris Coursey, chair of the Board of Supervisors. “Public participation in the process is critical to shaping how local government spends public funds.”

The three-day workshop will include presentations of preliminary 2023-24 budgets by each county department, as well as an updated five-year General Fund forecast. County staff will also provide an update on supplemental adjustments and department change requests that have been added to the preliminary budget.

The 2023-24 preliminary balanced budget totals $2.1 billion, which is a 3.8 percent decrease from the 2022-23 adopted budget due to non-recurring one-time funding largely tied to PG&E settlement funds programmed for county road improvements. The county’s General Fund preliminary budget total is $591 million, which represents a 3.8 percent decrease from fiscal year 2022-23 due to one-time investments, including $2 million for the Disaster Immediate Needs Fund; $5 million for the Water Security Fund; $1 million for the Low-Wage Worker Disaster Protection Policy; $10 million for the Community Infrastructure Fund; and $1 million for an integrated food distribution plan.
