County of Sonoma Board of Supervisors to hold annual budget workshops April 25 to April 27

Santa Rosa, CA | April 21, 2022

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors will hold its annual budget workshops on April 25, 26 and 27 to provide county residents and taxpayers an opportunity to learn about the 2022-2023 fiscal year preliminary spending plan and provide input to the Board before it adopts a final budget in June. The County of Sonoma fiscal year runs July 1 through June 30.

“These workshops allow members of the public to provide critical input that can shape and inform the final county budget,” said District 4 Supervisor James Gore, Chair of the Board of Supervisors. “We invite all community members to watch department presentations and weigh in through public comment on how local government should allocate public funding.”

The three-day workshop will include presentations of preliminary 2022-23 budgets by each county department, as well as an updated five-year General Fund forecast. The Board will also receive a presentation on the Inmate Welfare Trust from the Sheriff’s Office. The purpose of the workshops is to provide the Board and the public with information on the budget, and to allow for questions and requests of additional information needed before Budget Hearings in June. The Board will not make any budget determinations for fiscal year 2022-23 at these workshops.

The 2022-23 preliminary budget includes $2 billion in net expenditures, which is a 3.2 percent increase from the 2021-22 adopted budget. The increase is attributable to normal cost increases and increased one-time expenditures, particularly in Transportation and Public Works for roads infrastructure, including funding from the 2017 PG&E settlement funds.
