Caltrans and the county reassess Bohemian Highway Bridge Project over Russian River

Caltrans has informed the County of Sonoma that it will be unable to fund a full replacement of the dilapidated Bohemian Highway Bridge in Monte Rio, as it is currently planned. Read full story

Board of Supervisors boosts funding for county’s pavement preservation program

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors today unanimously approved a 3 percent boost in the General Fund contribution for resurfacing and maintaining the county road network, an increase that will be equal to $310,145 for fiscal year 2023-24. This is an addition to the $10 million in General Fund dollars that the board already allocates to the program each year, which supplements the gas tax funds that also are spent on road improvements in Sonoma County. SMART launches on demand microtransit shuttle connecting the train to the Sonoma County Airport (STS)

The Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit District (SMART) is pleased to announce the launch of the SMART Connect microtransit shuttle providing a first and last-mile connection between the SMART Airport Station and the Charles M. Sonoma County announces 2023 road paving season, encourages drivers to plan ahead, go slow and use detours

The Sonoma County Department of Public Infrastructure today announced that the Summer 2023 road resurfacing program is officially underway, including pavement treatment on 50 miles of road segments across 98 separate county-maintained roads. Work to be completed this season involves a combination of roads identified for the ongoing Pavement Preservation Program and roads that qualify for repair as part of the Fire Damage Recovery Paving Project supported by PG&E settlement funds. Main Street bridge in Monte Rio closed temporarily to ensure public safety following winter storm damage

The Sonoma County Department of Public Infrastructure today announced the temporary closure to vehicle traffic of the Main Street bridge over Dutch Bill Creek in Monte Rio after the bridge sustained critical damage in recent winter storms. One lane of the road had remained open with traffic control, but department officials determined that a full temporary closure to vehicles is necessary to ensure public safety following reports of drivers not observing the lane closure. Avelo Airlines Continues Sonoma County Expansion with New Exclusive Nonstop Service to Central Oregon

Avelo Airlines announced today it is expanding service at Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport (STS) with new nonstop service to Bend, Oregon’s Redmond Municipal Airport (RDM). Avelo will be the only airline offering nonstop flights between California Wine Country and Central Oregon. Read full story

Board of Supervisors authorizes repair of Moscow Road due to risk of failure following multiple major storm events

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors today authorized the Department of Public Infrastructure to move forward with permanent repairs to storm-damaged sites on Moscow Road in west Sonoma County. A total of three storm sites from 2019 and 2023 are at risk of failure and could isolate more than 250 residents. Permanent repair of all sites is expected to begin this summer. Read full story

Sonoma County partners with University of California in support of public research, education in Bodega Bay and Sonoma Valley

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors has authorized two separate license agreements between the County of Sonoma and The Regents of the University of California in support of public research and educational activities on county-owned tidelands property at Bodega Bay and the Los Guilicos campus in Sonoma Valley.
