Tier 2: Foundational

Tier 2: Individual Contributor

Objective:
The Foundational Tier (aimed at staff without supervisory or managerial responsibility; the majority of County employees) will allow the Individual Contributors to gain additional knowledge and skills to become a productive and engaged County employee in major aspects of daily work, and become better educated in the areas of Racial Equity and Belonging, one of the County’s Racial Equity and Social Justice directives. The Foundational Tier provides a firm foundation for advancement.

NOTE: Tier 2 is available to all County employees.

Summary:
Employees may follow certain "Themes" to particularize their learning and skills. Examples include:

Theme 1: 
Public Service Fundamentals
Courses provide employees the knowledge and skills to become productive and engaged County employees, including ways to practice cultural humility.

Theme 2: 
Racial Equity and Social Justice
Courses focus on attitudes, skills, and knowledge to become more effective, ethical, and compassionate professionals who engage in creative approaches to meet diverse individual, community, and societal needs. Courses also explore of the impacts of institutional racism and employees' responsibilities as public servants.

Theme 3:
Safety and Security

Courses raise awareness of the County’s policies and procedures relevant to risk management, safety, and emergency preparedness, including responding to natural disasters and security situations. Bias training will also be included in this Theme.

Theme 4:
Computer / Software Knowledge

Courses focus on computer and software skills.

Theme 5:
Increasing Productivity and Wellness

Courses offer ways to manage stress and cope with anxiety while improving work performance.

Theme 6:
Electives and Special Topics
Various courses and topics will be offered every year.
