Adopt an Animal

Our shelter cares for homeless animals until they can be matched with perfect forever homes. Please view our adoptable animals to learn more about them.

Adoptable Animals Now Available

Sonoma County Animal Services is pleased to announce that protocols are in place to resume adoptions. Review our instructions and protocols below to meet your next companion. Please note: adoptions are by appointment only; we are closed for walk-ins.

To provide one of our adoptable animals a forever home, please review the following:

  1. To find a companion that may be a good fit, look at our adoptable animals, read the posted information and review the photos or videos.
  2. When you have found an animal or two that you are interested in, email adoptions@sonoma-county.org or call (707) 565-7100 to receive a link to our electronic adoption application. Submit the application with the required uploads.
  3. Once your application is received, it will be reviewed. Applications are reviewed on a first come, first served basis. We will contact you by phone or email to let you know if your application has been approved, denied and/or if we have any additional questions.
  4. If your application is approved, we will schedule an appointment within 72-hours (depending on availability) for you to meet the animal via Zoom.
  5. If you are still interested in the animal after the virtual introduction, we well schedule another appointment for you to meet the animal at our facility.
    1. Instructions will be sent by email--please review them carefully.
    2. Before entering our facility, there will be a COVID-19 screening.
    3. Masks and social distancing protocols are required when at our facility.
    4. Our adoption processes will take place outside and restrooms are not available to the public--please plan accordingly.
  6. If the face-to-face meeting goes well and you decide to adopt, please plan on paying by credit card or check.
