Board of Supervisors prohibits new retail gas stations in unincorporated Sonoma County

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved an ordinance prohibiting the development of new retail gas stations in unincorporated areas of Sonoma County. The ordinance goes into effect in 30 days, on April 13.  Read full story

Board of Supervisors authorizes repair of Moscow Road due to risk of failure following multiple major storm events

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors today authorized the Department of Public Infrastructure to move forward with permanent repairs to storm-damaged sites on Moscow Road in west Sonoma County. A total of three storm sites from 2019 and 2023 are at risk of failure and could isolate more than 250 residents. Permanent repair of all sites is expected to begin this summer. Read full story

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors has authorized two separate license agreements between the County of Sonoma and The Regents of the University of California in support of public research and educational activities on county-owned tidelands property at Bodega Bay and the Los Guilicos campus in Sonoma Valley. DOMESTIC VIOLENCE OFFENDER SENTENCED TO 7 YEARS, 4 MONTHS STATE PRISON

Defendant Cesar Alfaro Garibay, 39 years old of Santa Rosa, was sentenced yesterday by the Honorable Robert LaForge to serve 7 years and 4 months in state prison after he admitted a violation of probation for a prior residential burglary from 2022, a new felony vandalism offense, and a violation of a domestic violence criminal protective order. EL VERANO PRIOR FELON CONVICTED OF POSSESSING FIREARM AND METHAMPHETAMINE

Following an approximately week-long trial before the Honorable Troye Shaffer, a Sonoma County jury has convicted defendant Hiramu el Kenyatta Bey (also known as Demond Battiest) 50 years old of El Verano, of all filed charges, including being a felon in possession of a firearm, being a felon in possession of ammunition, and felony possession of a loaded operable firearm while also being in possession of methamphetamine. Board of Supervisors set to consider Winery Events Ordinance Tuesday

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors is scheduled to consider adoption of Sonoma County’s first Winery Events Ordinance on Tuesday, March 14. The ordinance would establish new standards for winery events such as parking requirements, food service, traffic management, and noise standards to address the impact of winery visitor-serving uses on agricultural land. New and modified use permits would be subject to the new standards, while existing permits would not be impacted. Read full story

County Government Center parking lot selected as an emergency shelter site; public forum to be held Monday

County staff have selected a parking lot at 2550 Ventura Ave. on the County Government Center campus as the location for an emergency shelter site where space for up to 90 tents will be provided for homeless individuals to live temporarily while transitioning into permanent housing.
