The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors and public health leaders recognized the two-year anniversary of the COVID-19 pandemic today by paying tribute to health care workers, the county’s partners and the community for crucial work that saved lives, reduced hospitalizations and slowed transmission of the deadly virus. Man Sentenced to Serve 125 Years-to-Life in Prison for Sexually Assaulting Two Victims

Defendant Cecilio Castaneda, 55 years old of Santa Rosa, was sentenced yesterday by the Honorable Robert LaForge to serve 125 years-to-life in state prison after being found guilty by a Sonoma County jury in November of last year of multiple counts of molesting two young children. Following the 2 week-long trial the jury found the defendant guilty of all charges and enhancements. Read full story

Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office helicopter program funded for one year

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors today approved funding the Sheriff’s Office helicopter program, known as Henry 1, through June 2023. The board budgeted $2,372,757 to cover one year of helicopter operations and directed staff to investigate long-term funding for Henry 1. Read full story

Russian River Rally for Ukraine set for March 11 in Guerneville

Residents from throughout Sonoma County are invited to take part in a "Russian River Rally for Ukraine" happening at the Guerneville pedestrian bridge on Friday, March 11 at 6:30 p.m. Members of the public are encouraged to bring signs of support for Ukraine. It will be the third bridge over the Russian River to be lighted in yellow and blue, following the Healdsburg Memorial Bridge on February 28 and the Monte Rio Bridge on March 9. Read full story

County accepting applications for American Rescue Plan Act funding through April 7

Sonoma County has opened the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Notice of Funding Availability process to accept applications for ARPA funding through April 7. The county has allocated $34 million to support community resilience programs that address community needs identified as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The county is prioritizing applications that address systemic public health and economic challenges contributing to the unequal impact of the pandemic on certain populations. Read full story

Local parks tax supports $8.3 million in improvements

In the 2020-21 fiscal year, county and municipal park agencies throughout Sonoma County used more than $8.3 million in Measure M – Parks for All funds to expand parklands by nearly 2,500 acres, increase public access to programs and events and adopt a “climate durable” approach to rebuilding parks that have experienced wildfires.
