Auditor-Controller Treasurer-Tax Collector Department

For Immediate Release

Property Tax Deadline is April 10, 2020

Penalty Waivers Will Be Considered Due to COVID-19 Impacts

Santa Rosa,CA | April 02, 2020

The Sonoma County Auditor-Controller-Treasurer-Tax Collector’s Office (ACTTC) is aware of the impacts from the COVID-19 emergency and shares the community's concerns.  We have a long history of working with property owners in times of emergency and disaster, including the recent wildfires and floods. After April 10th, the ACTTC will consider written requests for penalty waiver due to the COVID-19 emergency on a case-by-case basis.

Secured Taxes are Delinquent after April 10, 2020

The second installment of the 2019-2020 Annual Secured property tax bill was due by February 1st and will become delinquent if not paid by April 10th. The ACTTC does not have authority to extend the April 10th delinquency date. All payments received after this date will be assessed late penalties and costs as required by law.

We encourage all property owners who can pay on-time to do so.  This revenue helps to fund many critical public services, such as police, sheriff, fire and emergency response, public health, public works, and education, and pays debt service on voter approved bonds and other legal obligations.

Late Payment Penalty Waivers

After April 10th, the ACTTC will consider written requests for penalty waiver due to the COVID-19 emergency on a case-by-case basis.  The COVID-19 penalty waiver application and information will be available after April 10th on the ACTTC website.
