Board of Supervisors approves construction to complete six emergency road repairs caused by winter storms
SANTA ROSA, CA | April 15, 2025
The Board of Supervisors today gave the green light for construction contracts to hasten the repair of six road segments damaged during recent winter storms, including Westside Road, Cavedale Road, West Soda Rock Lane, Wohler Road, and Giovanetti Road.
The authorization enables the Department of Public Infrastructure to procure and award the contracts without having to return to the Board for award. The emergency road repairs are estimated to cost $5.5 million and will be paid for from the Tobacco Securitization fund, which is available for use on capital projects.
“Time is of the essence for these projects. We need to quickly repair these roads, which are critical for accessing large areas of the county, including for evacuation and emergency response purposes,” said Supervisor Lynda Hopkins, chair of the Board of Supervisors. “This streamlined award process will allow for work to begin six to eight weeks earlier in the construction season. The Road Commissioner also has the authority to take emergency action to repair Westside Road to address public safety concerns brought about by the dual closure of Westside Road and Wohler Bridge.”
The projects will include construction of retaining walls, installation of drainage features, and repair of roads damaged during the recent storms and flood events. The cost estimates for these repairs are:
- Westside Road - $1.5 million
- Cavedale Road Site 2 - $1 million
- Cavedale Road Site 3 - $500,000
- West Soda Rock Lane - $1 million
- Wohler Road - $1 million
- Giovanetti Road - $500,000
