For Immediate Release
Alert and warning test planned for February 25 in Windsor
SANTA ROSA, CA | February 19, 2025
The County of Sonoma, the Town of Windsor, and local law enforcement and fire agencies will conduct an emergency alert and warning test on Tuesday, Feb. 25. The exercise will consist of a targeted alert test of the Sonoma County Alert System (SoCoAlert) in the Town of Windsor. The exercise will take place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. This is not an evacuation exercise. This will only be a test of the alert and warning system.
Starting at 10 a.m, SoCoAlert messages will be sent to residents in all zones within the Town of Windsor. You are able to look up your zone using the Know your Zone tool or by calling 2-1-1 for assistance over the phone. The SoCoAlert system records delivery data automatically, and County Department of Emergency Management staff will use the information from that to do its analysis.
Residents in the area who are not registered with SoCoAlert may still receive an alert because the alert system uses phone numbers from public utility records and other public sources. Make sure your cell phone’s sounds are turned on. Be aware that putting your cell phone on airplane mode or “do not disturb” will prevent you from hearing an alert.
Community members are encouraged to register to receive SoCoAlerts and learn more about how they work and why they are crucial in an emergency or disaster. While only those in the Town of Windsor will be included in the text, phone, and email alert test, it is important for all county residents and business owners to know their evacuation zone to be prepared for an emergency, and all are encouraged to take a few minutes to do so.
Subscribers to SoCoAlert could get an alert via text, email, or a phone call, depending on their account settings. Registering will help keep you and your family safe in the event of an emergency and will allow you to receive alerts in a variety of ways.
This is an annual test to ensure alert and warning systems work and the community is prepared in the event of an emergency. For a full list of upcoming events, visit the SoCoEmergency Events and Exercises webpage.
Please note: If an extreme weather event is forecast, the test alert and warning exercise will be canceled. The exercise will last approximately four hours.
