Department of Child Support Services phone lines down
Due to a statewide disruption in service, phone lines for Sonoma County’s Department of Child Support Services are not working. This includes the automated 866-901-3212 line. While the phone system is down, clients may reach out to Child Support Services using Customer Connect, where they may leave a message or ask for a call back. A Participant ID number is required when logging into Customer Connect. Clients can also visit any local child support agency for assistance. Read full story
Charles M. Schulz – Sonoma County Airport welcomes investment in local economy with new Avelo Airlines crew base
Charles M. Schulz – Sonoma County Airport today announced that Avelo Airlines on May 1 will open a crew base at the airport, which is expected to create up to 50 local jobs including pilots, flight attendants and aviation maintenance technicians. The move highlights Sonoma County’s value and importance as a destination and regional transportation hub. Avelo will initially base two Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft at STS in addition to employees. Read full story
County voter guides for March Presidential Primary Election going out this weekend
County Voter Information Guides for the March 5, 2024, Presidential Primary Election, will begin going out in the mail this weekend, Deva Marie Proto, Sonoma County Clerk-Recorder-Assessor-Registrar of Voters, announced today. The County Guides will be mailed to all active, registered voters in Sonoma County, with the exception of voters who have previously opted out of receiving such mailings. Read full story
Public invited to participate in Community Engagement Plan discussion at Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday
The public is invited to participate in the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors January 30 meeting to receive an update on the development of a Community Engagement Plan for the County of Sonoma. In the meeting, Office of Equity staff will present the findings and recommended strategies resulting from a community engagement process that has been conducted with Sonoma County community members, county leaders, and county staff. Sonoma County launches 'SoCo Chat' podcast, a new platform for county news and interviews with county leaders
The County of Sonoma today announced the launch of SoCo Chat, a digital podcast highlighting current county issues, stories and events, and other matters of public interest. The podcast will also feature in-depth discussions with county leaders. The new series will be available in video and audio formats on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, YouTube as well as the county website and will feature at least one new segment every week. Sonoma County Board of Supervisors extend temporary ban on tree removals
The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors today extended a temporary moratorium on removing protected trees for another four months. The urgency ordinance is needed while Permit Sonoma continues work on an updated Tree Protection Ordinance. The board on December 12 directed staff to make changes to the Tree Ordinance and adopted the 45-day moratorium as a placeholder. Today’s vote extends the moratorium until May 31. Read full story

Board of Supervisors authorizes planning and development of advanced composting facility in Sonoma County
The Board of Supervisors today authorized engineering and environmental planning for the first centralized composting facility in Sonoma County, which is expected to divert and process approximately 65,000 tons of organic material each year. The initiative, in alignment with the County’s Five-year Strategic Plan for Climate Action and Resiliency, moves the county toward carbon-neutral operations by 2030 and is supported by grant funding. Santa Rosa Woman Sentenced for Vehicular Manslaughter and Leaving Scene of Accident Resulting in Death
Defendant Allisa Marie Whitten, 35 years old of Santa Rosa, was sentenced today by the Honorable Mark Urioste to serve 3 years and 3 months in state prison after pleading no-contest in November of last year to crimes including felony leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter, misdemeanor destroying evidence, and misdemeanor driving a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license.
