Update September 6, 2019: Blue-green Algae Caution SignsPosted at Spring Lake in Santa Rosa

This afternoon signs were posted at Spring Lake park in the City of Santa Rosa to warn the public of any blue-green algae (BGA) that may be present in the lake.  DHS Environmental Health, in conjunction with the Sonoma County Parks Department will be collecting samples to be tested today to determine if harmful algae blooms are present in Spring Lake. CDPH Warns Consumers Not to Eat Sport-Harvested Bivalve Shellfish from Sonoma County

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is advising consumers not to eat recreationally harvested mussels, clams or whole scallops from Sonoma County. Dangerous levels of paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP) toxins have been detected in mussels from this area. The naturally occurring PSP toxins can cause illness or death in humans. Cooking does not destroy the toxin. Read full story
