In general, impounded animals with no known owner are held for one week. If we know who the owner is, animals are held for ten days. Please note that we do not euthanize for space or time. Friendly, healthy animals are held at our facility until a new home is found.

After the impoundment period, animals are evaluated for health and behavior and at that time, may be re-homed, transferred to another agency, placed into foster care, or humanely euthanized. Animals that are severly sick or injured and suffering, or pose a public safety risk may be humanely euthanized.

  • Rabbits, guinea pigs, other small animals, and livestock in our care are listed under "Other Animals."
  • Reptiles, amphibians, fish, or exotic pets in our care are not listed in the database. Please contact us at (707) 565-7100 for help with these lost animals.
  • Wildlife is not handled by Sonoma County Animal Services. Please call Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue at (707) 526-WILD (9453) for assistance.
