Sonoma County, nonprofit partner awarded $500,000 to promote free internet service for low-income households

The Sonoma County Economic Development Board has been awarded $300,000 from the Federal Communications Commission to expand local enrollment in the FCC’s Affordable Connectivity Program, which provides free and discounted internet service to low-income households. Read full story

SoCoAlert emergency alert exercise in northwest Sonoma County on Thursday

Thursday, Sonoma County will be conducting a test of the SoCoAlert emergency notification system at noon in northwest Sonoma County. The County Department of Emergency Management and partners have collaborated on planning the exercise and conducting outreach in the targeted areas. Testing the efficiency of messaging to Spanish speaking residents was a priority for the exercise planners. Read full story

Sonoma County issues freeze alert

The County of Sonoma is issuing a freeze alert in response to the National Weather Service’s prediction of sub-freezing temperatures overnight tonight through Sunday morning. Officials recommend that residents limit time outdoors as serious medical conditions including hypothermia and frostbite can develop with prolonged exposure to cold weather. Read full story

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors has officially proclaimed March 2023 as Family Justice Center Awareness Month, to raise awareness about the vital services provided by the Family Justice Center Sonoma County (FJCSC). The Family Justice Center is a place where victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, elder abuse, and human trafficking can receive comprehensive services under one roof. The FJC model was created in San Diego in 2002 and has since been replicated in over 100 locations worldwide. Read full story
