Sonoma County Receives Award for Housing Initiatives

County Selected for APA California’s Opportunity & Empowerment Merit Award

Santa Rosa,CA | July 19, 2019

The American Planning Association (APA) California Chapter selected the County of Sonoma’s Housing Initiatives program as the winner of the 2018 Opportunity and Empowerment Award of Merit.

The APA California Awards Program recognizes and celebrates the exemplary planning work occurring throughout California. The program’s Opportunity and Empowerment Award honors planning work that improves the quality of life for low- and moderate-income community residents.

“We are thrilled with this recognition of our innovative housing work,” states County of Sonoma Board Chair David Rabbitt. “The County and our partners will build on these initiatives as we continue to address Sonoma County’s housing crisis. Housing affordability benefits our entire community—residents, businesses, the environment, and the economy.”

The County’s Housing Initiatives program, which is spearheaded by Permit Sonoma, offers creative new types of housing and provide incentives to local developers to invest in creating more low- and moderate-income housing units. The initiatives also provide protections to preserve already existing affordable housing units.
