Historical Records Commission Meeting Minutes January 09, 2018

  1. Call to order 4:10 pm.
  2. Election of Officers
    1. The election of 2018 officers was postponed until the next HRC meeting when all members can be present.
  3. The December 12, 2017 Historical Records Commission minutes were approved.
  4. Budget Discussion
    1. The Advertising grant through the County is due next month
    2. The Finding History in Sonoma County committee is planning an archives crawl on October 20th in Santa Rosa.
    3. Strategic Planning Proposal
      1. Vice Chair Rinehart noted that several members of the HRC did not get the strategic planning survey, which was an oversight.
      2. She is composing a thank you note for all the survey participants
      3. BJ Bischoff will present the output of the HRC strategic planning session to the HRC on February 15th from 2pm to 4pm in the Annex Board Room.
    4. Finding History Day
      1. Committee is co-chaired by Vice Chair Rinehart and Commissioner Murphey.
      2. The committee met on January 6th.
      3. Commissioner Murphey is working on a draft of the committee's mission.
      4. The Preserving Your Family Archives event will be May 12th at the Saturday Afternoon Club (430 10th St, Santa Rosa).
      5. The Santa Rosa Sesquicentennial committee may cover the cost of the rental of the facility.
      6. A list of potential archives/museum that would participate in the crawl on October 20th has been put together.
      7. Rosie the Trolley might be rented to shuttle people between venues.
      8. The next committee meeting will be February 3rd at 10am in the kitchen of the Annex.

        1. Wallace Collection
          1. The Landmarks Commission has extended their grant application due date. 
          2. Jeremy Nichols, representing the Sonoma County Historical Society, Vice-Chair Rinehart and Commissioner Murphey are preparing an application concerning the Wallace Collection at the Archives.
        2. Board of Supervisor Minutes
          1. Commissioner Lovejoy mentioned that he had recently been to the Board of Supervisors Office looking for the Board of Supervisors minutes book from 1896.
          2. Apparently, the early minute books kept at the Board of Supervisors Office have been digitized. 
          3. Vice Chair Rinehart will contact the appropriate person in the BOS Office to figure out what historical records the BOS Office has.
