Your cat's license shows the community that your pet is a loved member of your family. Licensing your cat is the best way to ensure they get back to you safely if they are lost or hurt.

Licensing your cat is voluntary; cat licensing is not required in Sonoma County.

How to Purchase a Cat License

Sonoma County Animal Services has partnered with DocuPet to provide an enhanced pet licensing experience for residents. Pet licenses can now be purchased and renewed online at sonomacounty.docupet.com. This new, easy-to-use online licensing service provides a quick and easy process to license your pet. You can also learn about phone and mail-in licensing options as well via sonomacounty.docupet.com

The new licensing program allows residents to select a standard license tag at no additional charge or upgrade to one of DocuPet’s colorful designer tag styles for $15. 20% of all designer tag sales are donated to Sonoma County Animal Shelter through DocuPet’s Safe&Happy Fund. Each DocuPet tag, standard or designer, doubles as a pet’s official license and comes equipped with the HomeSafe™ 24/7 lost pet service, which relies on a dedicated full time dispatch staff and linked pet profiles to help get lost pets home quickly.

Cat License Fees

All cat licenses are a one-time fee. Landlords or apartment/condo complexes may require cats to be licensed. Please check with your landlord or manager for more information.
