What’s the latest on Homelessness in Sonoma County? A Community Webinar (Webinar #1)

You are invited to participate in a public forum on homelessness. This forum will feature Michael Gause, Ending Homelessness Program Manager for the Sonoma County Department of Health Services, and Dennis Pocekay, Continuum of Care Board Chair and Petaluma City Council Member. The forum will begin with a brief presentation on the state of homelessness in Sonoma County, followed by an “open forum” style Q&A session. Read full story

Sonoma County to transition homeless shelter sites; annual survey shows decrease in homelessness

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors today voted to replace the Emergency Shelter Site at the County campus with housing systems that are longer-term. The discussion came as the Supervisors received a report that showed the number of homeless individuals in Sonoma County decreased by 22 percent from last year. Read full story

County of Sonoma awarded $4.6 million in state funding to assist with homeless encampments

California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced this week that the County of Sonoma will receive $4.6 million to help individuals experiencing homelessness in encampments by moving them off the streets and into safe and stable housing. The county is one of 23 entities targeted to receive the special state funds. Read full story

Sonoma County Supervisors award $3 million for homelessness solutions

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors today approved $3 million in additional funds for housing-focused homelessness intervention projects as part of the county’s overall goal of reducing the homeless population by 10 percent every year. Read full story

Sonoma County saw 22 percent decrease in homelessness, annual Point-in-Time count shows

Sonoma County saw an overall 22 percent decrease in the area’s homeless population last year including a 24 percent decline in those identified as being chronically homeless, according to preliminary results of the 2023 Sonoma County Point-in-Time count in January. Read full story

Board of Supervisors endorses region wide strategic plan to address homelessness

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors voted today to support a five-year strategic plan to reduce homelessness, one developed by the Continuum of Care, the county’s homeless services system of care. The Continuum of Care Board approved the plan unanimously on Dec. 14, 2022. Read full story

2023 Sonoma County Homeless Point-in-Time Count Volunteer Registration Now Open- January 27th !

Friday, January 27, 2023, is the Sonoma County Point-in-Time (PIT) Street Count for all populations of person’s experiencing homelessness. The Count is a requirement for receiving federal homeless assistance funds and provides critical data used to understand homelessness locally and to support strategic decisions about our program.
