Permanent Asti Bridge
Transportation and Public Works is now Sonoma Public Infrastructure - Website updates coming soon!
About The Project
A Permanent Asti Bridge will provide an additional, reliable, year-round egress, particularly during disaster emergencies, which are an increasingly frequent threat. The total estimated project cost is $20 million, and the County proposes to fund $16 million. Property owners may be required to fund up to $4 million of project costs, dependent on any grant moneys that may be available.

County Environmental Review Committee to meet regarding Initial Study
On April 28, 2023, the Board of Supervisors authorized the Department of Public Infrastructure to proceed with Phase 2 of the design work for the Asti Bridge Project, which includes preparation of environmental documents for the California Environmental Quality Act analysis and acquisition of right-of-way.
An Initial Study of the environmental impacts of the proposed project has been prepared, and the Sonoma County Environmental Review Committee (ERC) has scheduled a review at 9:00am on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 in the Board Hearing room at the 575 Administration Drive, Room 102A, Santa Rosa. For complete meeting details, including a copy of the Initial Study, visit the ERC website (click on the "Upcoming Events" Dec.19th date) at: https://permitsonoma.org/boardscommissionsandcommittees/environmentalreviewcommittee.
In this preliminary meeting, the ERC will determine what type of environmental document should be prepared for the project; it will not decide whether to approve the project. That decision will be made by the Board of Supervisors at a future date, after the environmental document has been prepared and circulated for public comment.
The public is welcome to attend and to speak at this meeting. If you wish to bring environmental issues to the attention of the Committee but cannot attend this meeting, please send written comments to: Jackson Ford, Senior Environmental Specialist, Permit and Resource Management Department, 2550 Ventura Avenue, Santa Rosa, CA 95403. The comments must be received before the Committee meeting

Area residents participated in a well-attended community meeting on October 8, 2023 to discuss a range of topics, including emergency response, resiliency measures, and a progress report on the Permanent Asti Bridge Project. Director Johannes Hoevertsz shared that the county team continues to work through technical and environmental research on this very ecologically and technically complex site. He shared a schematic draft of alignment alternatives, as well as some theoretical visual renderings. Study completion is expected in June, 2024, when the findings, and preliminary Special District creation will be brought to the Board.
