The Gender Equity Ad Hoc will work to address issues of inequity and discrimination facing girls, women, transgender, non-binary, gender fluid, and gender non-conforming persons in our communities, regardless of ability, age, ethnicity/race, faith, gender expression, immigrant status, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status.
Our vision for Sonoma County is a community in which all women, regardless of gender identity or expression, are safe in all spaces, are empowered to achieve their full potential, and no longer face structural or institutional barriers to economic, social, and political equality. As such, we seek to pursue the following initiatives:
- Sonoma County adoption of the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) Resolution (aka "The Women's Bill of Rights")
- Update the Sonoma County Commission on the Status of Women Resource List
- Develop and award the Spirit of Community Award, which recognizes the achievements of women who have served as positive role models for women and girls in their community
- Develop a Speaker Series that focuses on issues that disproportionately impact women and girls in the County
Ad hoc members: Commissioners Lorena Barrera, Jan Blalock, Katie Gordon (Chair), and Caitlin Quinn
