Tawny Tesconi Appointed Director of Sonoma County General Services Department

Santa Rosa, CA  –  June 25, 2015  –  Sonoma County Administrator Veronica Ferguson has appointed Tawny Tesconi as the new General Services Director for the County of Sonoma. Ms. Tesconi had been serving as Interim Director of General Services since November while continuing to provide management support to the County Fair, where she was Fair Manager for seven years. She is the first woman to serve in this position in Sonoma County.

A Sonoma County native, Ms. Tesconi possesses extensive facility management and public service experience gleaned through her 27 year career in fair management. She started her tenure with the County of Sonoma in 2007 as the Manager of the Sonoma County Fair. Prior to this position, Ms. Tesconi was the CEO of the Sonoma -Marin Fair in Petaluma and several other Fairs through the state. During her career in the fair industry, Ms. Tesconi was recognized with the Hall of Fame award from Western Fairs Association and served in leadership roles on various industry boards and committees.

I am confident that Ms. Tesconi's extensive experience and strong leadership skills will enable her to efficiently and strategically move the Department forward."

Ms. Tesconi was born and raised in west Santa Rosa and was active in 4-H and FFA as a youngster. After attending Santa Rosa Junior College, Ms. Tesconi earned her Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and Managerial Economics from the University of California, Davis. She completed a national program to become a Certified Fair Executive, is Past President of the Petaluma Rotary Club, is a member of the both the California General Services Association and the Sonoma County Alliance, and is on the Summit State Bank Community Advisory Board.

As the Director, Ms. Tesconi will lead the County's General Services Department, which represents approximately 120 employees in four divisions, including Facility Development and Management, Fleet Services, Energy and Sustainability, and Purchasing and Procurement.  The General Services Department is instrumental in supporting the County's 25 departments and agencies in various ways and collaborates with local municipalities in fleet management and energy efficiency programs. The department also manages the seven County Veteran Buildings and coordinates the efforts of the County's Art Advisory Committee.
