Russian River Parkway - Project Detail

The goal of this project is to provide a unique, safe and clean river access supporting a variety of day-use activities including fishing, picnicking, paddling, and group programming, along a heavily used 1.75-mile stretch of Geysers Road. 

Proposed project elements include: 

• Designated parking separated from the travel way of Geysers Road 
• Improvement or replacement of existing trails for sustainability and accessibility
• Permanent restroom facilities - currently, no sanitary facilities exist, leading to human waste issues along the trails, slopes, and riverbanks
• Trash and recycling containers to reduce or eliminate dumping and littering
• Barriers between the road and the riverbank to allow the creation of a trail that runs the length of the site while also preventing dumping of large debris
• Regulatory, navigational, and educational signage describing proper use, history, and ecology  

Work Completed to Date

Regional Parks has begun initial cleanup at the site. Working in conjunction with Russian Riverkeeper, we have removed over seven tons of trash and eight abandoned vehicles from the site to date. To learn more about Russian Riverkeeper, visit their website at https://russianriverkeeper.org.

 Regional Parks has also teamed up with Sonoma County Social Services to connect people living in encampments at the site with housing and related services.
