Hood Mountain - FEMA: Los Alamos Entrance Repair Project

Los Alamos Road entrance to Hood Mountain FEMA repair

What & Why?

The big New Years Flood of 2005-2006 damaged the Los Alamos Road park driveway and resulted in the lower parking lot being closed. Park visitors had to hike down to the trailhead from the upper lot.

In 2012, Sonoma County Regional Parks and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reached agreement for FEMA and the California Emergency Management Agency (CAL-FEMA) to fund the necessary repairs.

The repairs consisted of a new 335-foot soldier pile and lagging retaining wall with tie backs, as well as the driveway and trailhead construction.

Project Completed in May 2013.
