What & Why?
Regional Parks received grant funding from California Division of Boating and Waterways to develop non-motorized boating access to the Russian River at Guerneville River Park consistent with the master plan. In addition, the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District provided matching grants funds to assist with park development. Public lands with boating and river access in this section of the Russian River is limited, so the new facilities will improve public access opportunities and provide another stop in the Russian River Water Trail.
After several years attempting without success to acquire additional property for access to construct the next phase of improvements, including boat portage, parking, and related amenities, Regional Parks has received approval from Caltrans to provide access from Highway 116 until a more permanent entry can be constructed.
The proposed entrance from Highway 116 will provide access to the east side of the park where additional parking, boat portage ramp, turn-around, picnic sites and paths will be constructed.
Design plans and engineering for the improvements have been completed, and the regulatory permits have been issued, including a roiling permit from the County. The project was publicly bid, and a contract awarded on August 17, 2021 to Hanford Applied Restoration and Conservation. We are ready for construction.
