Hazardous Materials Team Responds to Cannabis Oil Extraction Waste

At approximately 5:00 pm on July 18, Sonoma County Fire Prevention and Hazmat dispatched to Roblar Road and Valley Ford Road in response to a report of 5 55-gallon containers left on the side of the road.

Upon investigation and chemical identification, it was determined that the containers held used cannabis oil by-product and ethanol from the cannabis extraction process. Sonoma County Fire Prevention was assisted by Two Rock Volunteer Fire Department, Coast Guard Fire, Cal Fire, and Sonoma County Transportation and Public Works. The Containers were positioned upright, secured, and labeled for transportation to an approved accepting facility.

Permit Sonoma’s Fire Prevention and Hazardous Materials Division is responsible for emergency response to hazardous materials incidents throughout most of the County in coordination with local response personnel. This team, which has completed rigorous training and state certification, consists of paid department staff as well as volunteers from the community who are trained to respond to any level of hazardous materials incidents in the county.
