Construction Inspection Request Notice

Construction inspections are scheduled using the automated telephone system or via Permits Online, the online permitting tool. Inspections are on a 24-hour notification. You must have an issued permit number from Permit Sonoma to schedule an inspection.

Inspection requests for the areas of Jenner, Timbercove, Annapolis, Sea Ranch, and areas north of Cazadero are conducted Mondays and Fridays only.

Information

One of the major activities of the division is to enforce the California Fire Code and other fire-related codes and ordinances. Responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing building construction plans
  • Inspections of new construction for code compliance
  • Conducting fire safety inspections for commercial occupancies
  • Special events
  • Licensed care facilities
  • Vegetation management plans
  • Site visits

This part of the division is staffed by two full-time fire inspectors including Extra-Help. A Fire Prevention Customer Service staff person is available for walk-in questions at the Permit Center Monday thru Thursday from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The Fire Prevention Customer Service Desk is closed on Fridays.

The Permit Center is located at 2550 Ventura Avenue in Santa Rosa. You can also reach Fire Division Customer Service Staff by email.

Site mitigations and site evaluations are available and require a minimum 1-hour inspection fee. Mitigations and site evaluations will be conducted at the discretion of the fire inspector. Contact: Steve Mosiurchak to arrange for a site visit.

Construction Without Permits

Any construction without permits will be subject to fines adopted by State and Local codes. If a project is found to not have a valid permit by a Fire Code Official, or a complaint is filed with the Permit Sonoma Code Enforcement section or Fire Prevention division, the violator will be subject to fines prior to the issuance of the permit.

Avoid Reinspection Fees

If a site inspection is requested and the site is not ready when the inspector arrives, then a minimum 1-hour inspection fee will be charged to the permit applicant at the discretion of the fire inspector.
