Storm Water Protections During Construction

Published: October 05, 2018

The Water Board mandates that contractors meet specific storm water construction practices to prevent harmful pollutants from entering our watershed. Sonoma County is required by our permit from the Water Board to enforce compliance with these requirements. The County has been working with contractors in Larkfield and Mark West areas since August to get voluntary compliance and to notify them of the requirements.

This week, the County issued correction notices to sites with active construction that are not in compliance with the required storm water protections. If homeowners received these notices, please know that these are directed at your contractors. Contractors should be well aware of these requirements, which have been the law for more than 25 years. Monetary penalties or fines may be issued for instances of continued non-compliance. These fines should be paid by the contractor and not be levied on the homeowners. The County will continue to proceed with building inspections and the violation notices should not impede the rebuild process.
