IT Resiliency

ISD Tech Server 750

Purpose

ISD provides technology support used by nearly every County activity.

The purpose of the Disaster Recovery and Resiliency (DR) Program is ISD’s implementation of IT Service Continuity Management. Continuity Management is the process by which DR plans are created and managed to ensure that IT applications and services can remain healthy, resilient, or recover, in accordance with stakeholder requirements, should a serious incident occur. The DR Program is not just about reactive measures, but also about proactive measures to reduce the risk or impact of a disaster.

Scope

In accordance with IT Service Continuity Management, disaster recovery and resiliency must be an integral part of the County’s Technology procedures and guidelines. A mature IT Resiliency Program encompasses an understanding of all applications and services that the County provides to the community, and their inter-dependencies, regardless of whether they are hosted on or off or premises. The IT Resiliency program ensures ability to protect and restore IT applications and services as well as well as visibility and understanding of which services are able to satisfy stakeholder requirements including where gaps exist, thus allowing the County to identify where resources could provide the most value to the County’s portfolio.

The IT Resiliency Program is managed by ISD Disaster Recovery Coordinators who are responsible for defining and coordinating activities to improve the resilience and recovery of core IT infrastructure, applications, and services. This includes defining processes and training materials for staff to create and maintain DR plans for IT applications and services. Development of disaster recovery plans will be composed of a number of sections that document resources and procedures to be used in the event that a disaster occurs at County facilities.
