Older Artists Shine at 2018 Senior Art Show

Santa Rosa,CA | July 06, 2018

A delightful mix of original art by Sonoma County residents age 60+ will be on display at the 2018 Senior Art Show from July 17-Septermber 6 at Finley Community Center, 2060 W. College Ave., Santa Rosa. The show highlights the creative talents and skills of older adults through their paintings, glass work, photography, sculpture, fiber pieces and wood carvings. Visit free Monday – Fridays, 8 a.m.– 6 p.m., and Saturdays, 9–11 a.m.

The Opening Reception is Thurs., July 19, 1-4 p.m., at the Finley Center. Artists will demonstrate their skills as guests enjoy light refreshments and music.

This year’s featured artist is Guerneville resident Georgianna Kepler (see photo), whose work has been part of the Senior Art Show for 10 years. The 78-year-old says her paintings, with their vibrant colors, depict “an underlying harmony in a seemingly chaotic world.” Her work is currently exhibited at Cafe Meuse Wine Lounge in San Francisco, Mi Casita Mexican Restaurant in Guerneville, and MadroneFineArt.com.

Hosted annually by the Sonoma County Human Services Department Adult and Aging Division and the City of Santa Rosa, the show is open to any local older artist, though most are from art classes at senior centers. The Adult and Aging Division provides protective and supportive social services for older adults and people with disabilities to help them live independently, with dignity and a positive quality of life.
