Medical Reserve Corps

What is the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC)?

The Medical Reserve Corps is part of a nationwide volunteer health service corps – and an opportunity to use your talents to help your community in time of need. It was developed by the Sonoma County Dept. of Health Services as part of the Public Health emergency planning and response system.

The primary mission of the Sonoma County MRC has been to staff mass dispensing sites in the event of a public health emergency. Its mission has broadened to include offering surge personnel to hospitals, alternate care sites, evacuation shelters, triage centers and other facilities in a large health disaster.

Purpose

The Purpose of the Medical Reserve Corps is to respond to the health-medical emergency needs of the community including staffing shelters, alternate care sites or points of dispensing (PODs), or providing surge capacity (extra staffing) in emergency response locations determined by Public Health. The MRC does not replace existing staffing resources.
