    Yesterday, George Floyd’s family said goodbye forever to the man they loved.  George died as a police officer planted a knee onto his neck for several minutes cutting off his ability to breathe and ultimately killing him, while he laid face down on the street in handcuffs.

    Over the last few weeks the County has taken a series of preventative steps in response to the COVID-19 public health emergency, including issuing a Shelter in Place Order, closure of all parks in the County, and reinforcing important health reminders such as practicing social distancing and good hygiene, and staying home from school or work when sick.

    It is hard to believe that we are embarking on Day 13 of the County’s Shelter in Place Order.  This Health Order requires that most people stay home unless they are engaged in certain “Essential Activities.”   This is a critical intervention to reduce harm from the spread of the coronavirus in our community.

    The Sonoma County Commission on Human Rights is proud to unanimously support and endorse the Sonoma County - United in Kindness Project, put forward by the Interfaith Council of Sonoma County and approved by unanimous vote on March 26th, 2019.

    County and SCLEMA representatives met on July 1st for the parties’ 4th bargaining session.  The County provided back-up information on its salary survey data and addressed foundational points regarding the County’s salary proposal.  The parties also identified and discussed those areas of the County’s economic proposals where there was tentative agreement.  The parties will return to the bargaining table on July 8th.

    The County and ESC met on July 1, 2019 for their 24th bargaining meeting.  The parties developed a conceptual framework for completing the negotiations, and will confirm the status of a potential tentative agreement on July 9, 2019.

    The County is pleased to announce that on 6/28/2019, the County and Local 39 reached a comprehensive tentative agreement for a four year successor labor contract.  Under the terms, represented employees will receive annual salary increases, increased contributions to members' medical premiums, and increases toward employees' workforce development and wellness.  The Union agreed to participate in a joint labor-management committee to explore potential options to address retirement-related costs, and the parties clarified language throughout the existing contract.  The agreement will go to the Bargaining Unit for ratification, and upon ratification, the matter will go to the Board of Supervisors for final approval.  The County appreciates the bargaining team’s hard work and professionalism in reaching this long term agreement.

    On 6/19/2019, the County of Sonoma and ESC met for their 23rd meeting.  The parties engaged in lengthy and substantive discussions about options to move closer to reaching agreement on a comprehensive contract. The parties are scheduled to meet again on July 1, 2019.

    On 6/18/2019, the County of Sonoma and Local 39 met for their 8th meeting. The parties exchanged further responses regarding the remaining unresolved proposals between the parties, including the County’s offer of annual salary increases for each Local 39 classification over four years, increased contributions toward employees’ medical premiums and increased contributions toward each member’s staff development.
