The County continues to move forward with the private sale of the Chanate Campus. The County has previously declared the Chanate Property as surplus property and has attempted to sell the Property to designated entities including housing sponsors pursuant to Gov’t Code 54220. Prior efforts to sell the property to designated entities, and most recently to Village Partners LLC, have not been successful in part due to uncertainties regarding the location of active earthquake faults which affect where development can occur on the property. The County is preparing to re-market the property for private sale later this summer after obtaining seismic studies of potential active earthquake faults, and surveying and mapping any located faults. These efforts will provide important information to potential buyers and remove uncertainties about areas most appropriate for residential and commercial uses.
The property will be sold as is, without entitlements, and the buyer will work with the City of Santa Rosa and the community through the entitlement process. As before, the historic cemetery will be left intact and undeveloped; additionally Parcel J is not part of the sale.
