Man Sentenced to Seven Years Prison for Domestic Assault and Forgery

Santa Rosa, CA  –  April 2, 2021  –  Defendant Austin McClure, 22 years old of Santa Rosa, was sentenced earlier today by the Honorable Christopher Honigsberg to serve 7 years in state prison after pleading no contest in March to charges of felony domestic assault and forgery. Additionally, the defendant admitted to having one prior domestic violence related conviction within the last seven years, and one prior strike conviction.

On October 31, 2020, at approximately 6:40 PM, multiple witnesses reported a domestic disturbance in the area of Hoen Avenue in Santa Rosa. Specifically, witnesses stated that the victim was hysterical, reported that her life was in jeopardy, and that she needed assistance. Upon arrival, officers located her walking down the road crying and screaming, with visible injuries all over her face and body. The victim stated that her boyfriend, the defendant, had beaten her and threatened her with a gun. After speaking with other witnesses, officers learned that earlier that day the victim had frantically fled to a nearby neighbor’s home seeking help, stating that her boyfriend had a gun. The victim explained that the defendant had beaten and threatened to kill her. Officers also learned that the victim subsequently fled to a local shelter seeking assistance.

The defendant’s 7 year sentence included time for forgery charges after he admitted attempting to cash forged and stolen checks at various ATMs in Sonoma County in November of 2020.

At the time of his recent arrests the defendant was on three grants of probation for second degree robbery and domestic violence related offenses. Additionally, McClure had previously suffered a domestic violence related conviction with a different victim.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Alex Fisher, and investigated by the Santa Rosa Police Department.
